This is very late and I need to post this quickly! So! Forgive the rather old-school-ish HTML!

Welcome to Andy Ihnatko Picks On Oscar! 2006 Edition, the 9th annual outing in which I amaze some but mostly just embarrass myself with a detailed personal analysis of Who's Gonna Win and Who I'd Vote For.

I now raise my right hand, place my left on the 2006 edition of the Roger Ebert Movie Yearbook, and speak the Oscar Internet Handicapper's Oath:

I, Andy Ihnatko, am a movie buff;
I truly enjoy movies, talking about movies, and thinking about movies;
However, the fact that I've seen Tim Burton's student films,
And can explain how the movie "9 1/2 Weeks" was influenced by the French New Wave,
Does not mean I'm part of the Movie Industry,
Nor does it mean that I have any special knowledge,
Nor does it mean that I have in any way Swung A Beacon of Wisdom
Across this Barren Moonscape of Cultural Ignorance
Et Cetera, Et Cetera
Or anything else that might get me punched in the sternum
By someone whom I imagined was going to be delighted by my wit, insight, and willingness to educate;
Incidentally,
The Director's Cut of "The Abyss" is one of the best movies ever made;
Forever and Ever, Amen.

If you're going to be watching the Oscarcast with the Internet nearby, I'll be live-blogging my reactions as they come. Point your browser to

...at any time during the Oscarcast and keep refreshing the page.

On Friday night, March 3, I'll also be recording a version of these picks for my "Little Red Envelope" podcast. This is a flabbergastingly self-indulgent concept in which I talk about all the movies that I get through the Netflix DVDs-by-mail service.

And as always, feel free to email me with any thoughts, ideas, or disparaging comments regarding my sense of Oscar logic or -- assuming you've met me -- my sense of fashion. Frankly, these comments say far more about you than they say about me.
