Mike Melvill, officially the Coolest Guy In The Whole Damned World. He took SpaceShipOne's controls as a Pilot, and then let go of them as an Astronaut.
If I learn later on that the little hole wasn't put in specifically so the pilot can stick his hand out and flash a thumbs-up (or throw the goat) at the crowd, I will be incredibly disappointed.
